Italy surpassed Bulgaria as the cheapest ski destination in Europe, according to data from a new study prepared by British travel agencies, DPA reported.
The Bulgarian resorts Borovets and Bansko were in second and sixth place, respectively, in the annual analysis of the ratio between price and quality of ski holidays, prepared by British tour operators Post Office Travel Money and Crystal Ski Holidays.
The Italian town of Bardonecchia topped the list, Prices in Bardonecchia increased by only 1.4 percent compared to last year.
Borovets, Southwestern Bulgaria, ranked in second place (with a price increase of 8.2%) and Bansko, Southwestern Bulgaria, was in sixth place (with an increase of 18.1%) which is due to the increased costs of the ski school.
The study compared the prices of ski passes, equipment hire and training, as well as the prices of lunch and drinks on the slopes in 36 European cities.
Prices in nine out of a total of 31 European winter resorts, which were also part of the study last year, have decreased.
The biggest price decrease was in the French Les Arcs resort and the Swiss Wengen resort, both 5.5% cheaper this year.
The most expensive ski resort was Zermatt in Switzerland, where prices are more than twice as high as those in Bardonecchia.
