The average salary in Bulgaria was BGN 2,000 in the third quarter of 2022, which marked a year-on-year increase of 14.7%, show data from Ministry of Labour and Social Policy's information bulletin on income and living standards for the period, published on the Ministry's website on Tuesday.

The average salary was the highest in Sofia City Province. The average salary in the capital was BGN 2,722, which was 36.1% more than the national average and 13.9% more than in the third quarter of 2022, the Ministry noted. The highest year-on-year growth in average wages was recorded in the regions of Kardzhali (20.1%) and Lovech (18.6%).

The statistics show that the total household income in the third quarter of 2023 was some BGN 5,728 and increased by 18.4% compared to the same period last year, the Labour Ministry also reported. The information in the bulletin specifies that the main component of total income is gross income.

Eight economic activities recorded average wages above the national average for the period and they employed about one-third of all workers. The highest wages are in the economic activities "Creation and distribution of information and creative products, telecommunications", "Production and distribution of electricity, heat and gaseous fuels", "Financial and insurance activities", "Mining and quarrying", "Professional activities and scientific research", "Public administration", "Education", "Human health and social work".
