site.btaEconomic and Social Council Reconfirms Support for Central Bank as It Aspires to Eurozone Entry in 2025

The Economic and Social Council (ESC) Wednesday reconfirmed its support for the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) as it aspires to entry in the eurozone from January 1, 2025. This transpired at a working meeting of ESC Chairperson Zornitsa Rusinova and her three deputies with BNB Governor Dimitar Radev, BNB said on Wednesday. At the meeting, ESC representatives presented a Resolution on Bulgaria's eurozone membership, adopted on October 13 by the ESC Plenary. ESC members are organizations representing the full spectrum of organized civil society in Bulgaria.

The Resolution further develops and confirms ESC's position in support of Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone and compliance with January 1, 2025 as a target date for introducing the euro as Bulgaria’s currency.

At their meeting with Radev, the ESC representatives expressed readiness to engage the expertise of the organizations from the three groups represented in the Council to conduct an active, wide-ranging and effective information campaign on the topic.

Radev expressed his appreciation of the efforts the ESC is making to inform the public on the issue, stressing the importance of the consensus reached between employers, employees and NGOs in support of the euro adoption. Radev also briefed the ESC on the activities carried out by the BNB in the process of preparation for the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria.
