New Car Registrations Up 14.6% in EU, 16.7% in Bulgaria in October Y/Y

In October 2023, new car registrations in the EU went up by 14.6% year on year, reaching 855,484 units, according to data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) on Tuesday. In Bulgaria, new car registrations numbered 2,781, which is an increase by 16.7% from October 2022.

This EU-wide upward trend has been observed for 15 months now, driven by the high demand in France (+21.9%), Italy (20%), and Spain (18.5%).

In October, the sales of battery-electric cars in the EU grew by 12% year on year, resulting in a market share of 14.2% and surpassing diesel’s cumulative share for the first time. Petrol cars remained first at 33.4%, followed by hybrid-electric cars with a market share of 28.6%.

In Bulgaria, the highest number of registrations were for petrol cars (1,976 units, up by 18% from October 2022), followed by diesel vehicles (631 units, up by 7.1% year on year). Registrations of battery-electric cars numbered 111, up from 86 in October 2022. A total of 40 hybrid-electric cars and 23 plug-in hybrid-electric cars were registered in this country last month, compared to 23 and 16, respectively, in October 2022.
