The monthly inflation rate was negative 0.1%, while the annual inflation rate was 6.3%. The inflation rate is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), with monthly inflation referring to the month of September 2023 compared to the previous month, and annual inflation being for September 2023 compared to the same month of 2022, the National Statistical Institute reported in a press release, published on Monday.

In September 2023, a month-on-month decrease was registered for Recreation and culture (-10.1%) and Restaurants and hotels (-1.9%). The highest increase was recorded in the prices for Education (+4.0), Transport (+2.7%), Clothing and footwear (+0.6%), Health (+0.6%) and Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+0.5%). 

The inflation rate since the beginning of the year (September 2023 compared to December 2022) was 3.6%, and the annual average inflation rate for the period October 2022 - September 2023 compared to the period October 2021 - September 2022 was 12.4%.

The peak inflation rate in Bulgaria was registered in September 2022, when inflation reached 18,7%. 

The monthly inflation rate was 0.4% and the annual inflation rate was 7.7% in August 2023, compared to August 2022. Inflation is in the single digits and declining for the fourth month in a row. 

Monthly inflation for July 2023 was 0.9% and the annual was 8.5%. In June, the rate of change in consumer prices on a monthly basis in Bulgaria was negative 0.4% and the annual inflation rate for June 2023, compared to June 2022, was 8.7%. Annual inflation in June 2023 became single-digit for the first time since January 2022, when it was 9.1%. 

Annual inflation for May 2023 was 10.1%. Inflation in Bulgaria in April was 11.6% compared to April 2022 and 14% in March, marking a slowdown from February when annual inflation was 16%. In January 2023, annual inflation was 16.4% and in December 2022, it was 16.9%. In November 2022, it was also at 16.9%. In October 2022, annual inflation was 17.6%.

In August 2022, annual inflation was 17.7% per cent compared to August 2021, 17.3% in July 2022, 16.9% in June 2022, 15.6% in May, 14.4 % in April 2022 and 12.4% in March 2022. In February 2022 annual inflation was 10% and 9.1% in January 2022 compared to January 2021.
