The Economist magazine presented its economic evaluations for European countries in a kind of "economic pentathlon", with gold, silver or bronze medals to the countries according to their performance in each of the five disciplines: demand, debt, demography, decarbonization, and disengagement from authoritarian economies.
Bulgaria received one gold medal, two silver and two bronze medals. This country "won the gold medal" in the debt category, with the lowest debt service costs or 3.8% of the gross domestic product (GDP).
The champion in the overall ranking was Ireland, which was awarded with four gold and one silver medal.
European countries are facing some worrying years, writes the Economist magazine, outlining the economic problems facing the region: slowing growth, slow decrease of inflation, and continued deterioration of business confidence.
