General Labour Inspectorate Establishes 175,850 Violations in First 9 Months of 2023

The General Labour Inspectorate has conducted 35,956 checks for the first nine months of this year, the Inspectorate reported here on Monday. A total of 30,757 enterprises with over 1,200,000 employees have been checked. The total number of labour legislation violations added up to 175,850. There were 85,781 violations related to ordinances regulating employment relations. Violations related to health and safety at work totaled 89,252. The labour inspectorate is focusing on sectors and activities that are deemed high-risk when it comes to undeclared labour and health and safety at work. These include construction, agriculture, hotels and restaurants, and retail trade.

A total of 2,737 persons working without labour contracts were established. These violations numbered 2,464 a year earlier.

A total of 13,210 work permits have been issued to minors, which is 23% more compared to the same period of last year, when 10,704 such permits were issued.

There were a total of 371 instances when inspectors had to stop the work at sites, machines and facilities, which is more compared to the 173 such instances reported for the first nine months of 2022.

A total of 7,833 written statement ascertaining administrative violations have been issued in the first three quarters of this year. The sum of the enforceable penalty decrees and approved settlements added up to BGN 10.8 million. A total of BGN 7.5 of delayed wages were established, over BGN 5 million of which were paid out after the labour inspectorate intervened.
