The Albena sea resort will mark 54 years since its establishment on August 24 with a diverse cultural programme, the resort's press centre said. The celebrations will begin with a parade of folklore groups, part of the Stars of the World international festival.

The participants will perform traditional songs, music, and dances. They will be joined by circus performers.

The evening programme will start with a children's disco at Ganvie Beach Arena, followed by a concert by Stefan Valdobrev together with The Usual Suspects formation. A fireworks show will close the programme.

The entrance to the concert programme is free of charge, the press centre said.

As per tradition, on August 24 Albena will launch the sales for Summer 2024. By the end of September, those wishing to make bookings can do so at the prices for summer 2023 plus a 10% discount. All guests of the resort will receive a special promotion code for a 10% discount for the New Year's Eve offers.

The Albena resort was established on August 24, 1966. It is named after a character of Bulgarian classical writer Yordan Yovkov from the early 20th century. The first tourists were students from Czechoslovakia. Initially, the tourists were accommodated in bungalows. The official opening was on March 14, 1967 in the presence of communist leader Todor Zhivkov. In 1974, the resort's territory was increased with the construction of a restaurant outside of the accommodation buildings. In the 1970-1989 period, the guests included many foreign state and party leaders paying official visits to the People's Republic of Bulgaria, such as Leonid Brezhnev, Indira Gandhi, Fidel Castro, Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal, Nicolae Ceausescu, Saddam Hussein, Mathieu Kerekou, and Taha Yasin Ramadan. As at 1989, Albena is the country's most modern resort.  At present, it is owned by one of the biggest tourist companies in Bulgaria, Albena AD, which is a publicly traded company on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange.
