As of the end of June 2023, the assets managed by local and foreign investment funds operating in Bulgaria amounted to almost BGN 8.885 billion, reported the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB).

Their amount increased year-on-year by BGN 602.5 million (7.3%) and by BGN 78.5 million (0.9%) compared to March. As a percentage of projected GDP, the total assets of domestic and foreign investment funds as of June 2023 were 4.8%, compared to 5% of GDP as of June 2022, and 4.7% as of the end of the first quarter of 2023.

As of the end of June 2023, the assets of local investment funds reached almost BGN 2.822 billion and on an annual basis increased by nearly BGN 140 million (5.2%).

As of the end of June, the relative share of fund assets invested in shares of the total amount of assets of local investment funds was 57.2%, compared to 49.5% a year earlier. Funds invested in bonds held 28.6% of total assets as of June 2023, compared to a relative share of 33.4% as of June 2022 and 29.1% as of March 2023.

Households (37.7%), insurance companies and pension funds (30.4%) and non-financial enterprises (9.6%) had the largest relative shares in the equity capital of local investment funds at the half-year mark.
