site.btaDG Fire Safety Head: Situation Is Dynamic across Bulgaria, Fires Currently Pose No Threat to People, Residential Buildings

The fire situation in the country is very dynamic, Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, head of the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection, told BTA on Sunday. When there are strong winds no one can predict for sure what will happen, he specified. At this stage, there is no danger to residential buildings and people.

"Today, we responded to more than 250 accidents, of which over 150 were fires," he said.

He also said the causes of the fires were varied, including carelessness in handling open flames. Some of the fires were caused by strong wind and a spark from power lines, he added.
