There is a consensus to replace the paper employment record book (labour book) with a single electronic employment record and make it part of the National Revenue Agency's (NRA) employment register, BTA learned from Bozhidar Bozhanov, MP of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, who sponsored the amendments to the Labour Code.

“By centralizing this information, we will provide more guarantees for the rights of employees,” Bozhanov said. The idea is also welcomed by the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Industrial Association.

The first step towards the change was made at the end of May, when the MPs voted on the first reading of the bill. Its final adoption is expected in the autumn parliamentary session, as the time before the summer recess was not enough to pass a second reading in the committee on labour, social and demographic policy.

The one-month delay is not a problem because the institutions are already aware of what will be expected of them and the deadlines will not be changed, Bozhanov said in a Facebook post in July.
