The number of newly built residential buildings in Bulgaria decreased in the second quarter of 2023 for the first time since last year, the National Statistical Institute reported on its website on Tuesday. During Q2 of 2023, the highest share of newly built dwellings was three-room dwellings, reversing the trend of the last three quarters to be dominated by two-room dwellings.

According to preliminary data, in the second quarter of 2023, the number of newly built residential buildings was 1,180, and the newly built dwellings in them were 5,198. Compared to the second quarter of 2022, the buildings were 17 fewer, or by 1.4%, and the newly built dwellings in them increased by 1,121, or 27.5%.

In the second quarter of 2023, the highest number of newly built buildings was registered in the regions of Sofia capital (204 buildings with 1,168 dwellings), Plovdiv (163 buildings with 449 dwellings) and Burgas (130 buildings with 1,352 dwellings).

In the second quarter of 2023, the average useful floor space of a newly built dwelling decreased to 96.2 sq m from 104.3 sq m in the second quarter of 2022. The total useful space of newly built dwellings was 500,100 sq m, up by 17.6% year-on-year, and the living floor space increased by 16% to 395,500 sq m.
