The price of electricity for households will not increase from the beginning of next year, Finance Minister Assen Vassilev told journalists at the Council of Ministers here on Thursday. His words were supported by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Energy Minister Rumen Radev.

There are many and various mechanisms to keep the price of electricity from jumping, Vassilev argued. Businesses are not on a regulated market and continue to pay no more than 200 leva per megawatt-hour, he recalled.

At the beginning of 2026, the price of electricity will be determined by investments, renewable energy sources (RES) and whether there will be a new nuclear power plant, Nikolay Denkov said. From 2025 there will be a model for the liberalization of the household electricity market. A draft regulation will be prepared to compensate people who have problems with the price of electricity.

"Our goal is not to make fake cash flows, from which only the banks will profit. We are working with the regional and social ministries on this," the Energy Minister said.
