Bulgarian, Romanian Interior Ministry Representatives Discuss Measures Easing Border Crossing Traffic

Interior Ministry representatives from Bulgaria and Romania discussed in Ruse, on the Danube, measures to ease cargo and passenger traffic at the border crossings between the two countries, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

Deputy Interior Minister Stoyan Temelakiev held talks with Romanian State Secretary for Public Order and Safety Bogdan Despescu. They discussed the possibilities to further optimize the organization of controls at the border crossing points in order to achieve synchronization and rhythm in the processing of the flow of light and freight traffic, and to shorten the waiting time at the border.

A roadmap was prepared for the resolution of specific issues and the implementation of certain activities for each specific border crossing point. Topics related to joint cooperation on the accession of the two countries to the Schengen area and tackling current migration challenges were also discussed during the talks.

The meeting was attended by Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, Director of the General Directorate of the Bulgarian Border Police, Mihai Catalin Necula, Romanian State Secretary for International Affairs and Schengen, the Head of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Border Police, Chief Police Commissioner Victor Stefan Ivascu, the Directors of the two countries' Border Police Directorates and experts.
