Schneider Electric, which has a plant in the Trakia Economic Zone (TEZ), south central Bulgaria, signed the TEZ Carbon Neutrality and Sustainability Charter on Monday. The charter has already been signed by six companies, with 20 more expected to join the initiative, which is the first industry alliance of companies in Europe with a focus on reducing carbon emissions.

Minister of Innovation and Growth Milena Stoycheva, who was among the event attendees, said that such initiatives are part of her strategy to encourage investment and support small and medium-sized enterprises by making digital, green and sustainable progress more viable.

Schneider Electric briefed Stoycheva on its project to build Bulgaria's first innovative geothermal energy system in an industrial plant, which will make the factory completely independent of natural gas.

Stoycheva was also briefed on the development of TEZ and the Maritza Carbon Neutral Industrial Park, best practices in the implementation of the Investment Promotion Act, as well as the cooperation between Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv and TEZ.

Guests of the event included the Regional Governor of Plovdiv Iliya Zyumbilev, TEZ Executive Director Plamen Panchev and other TEZ representatives.
