The Tourism Ministry warned those about to travel to or back from Greece and Italy to inform themselves in good time about potential crisis situations, the Ministry stated on Sunday regarding the cancellation of organized flights of Bulgarian tourists to Italy.

On July 27, the Tourism Ministry received a letter by the Chair of the Future for Tourism Association of Tour Operators and Travel Agencts regarding problems related to cancelled flights of Bulgarian tourists to Italy.

It explains that from July 25 tour operators face a significant problem because some of the flights of the low-cost carrier Wizz Air are cancelled at the last minute. According to two of the tour operators, delays and cancellations have been a regular occurrence in the last three weeks.

Tourism Ministry sent an official letter to the Deputy Transport Minister responsible for air transport. The letter urges the Tourism Minister to arrange a meeting with a senior representative of Wizz Air. It is expected that such a meeting to find a joint quick and favourable solution will take place by the end of next week.

In the last days, the Italian island of Sicily has been hit by devastating wildfires that have killed at least three people. In Greece, some 667 fires have broken out in recent days, caused by people - either deliberately or through negligence.
