In 2022 Sofia Airport handled a total of 6, 003, 653 passengers, 95% of which were on international flights. This is an increase of 78% and the airport nearly reached pre-pandemic levels. These are the data in first annual sustainability report about Sofia Airport, spanning the period of January 1 to December 31 2022, circulated to the media. The report has been drawn up in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

The number of aircraft movements grew by over 30%, while commercial flights grew by nearly 50% compared with 2021. The airport employed a total of 1,458 staff, of whom over 80% were included in collective labour agreements. Women accounted for 35% of the workforce and 27% of senior staff. Training totaled 8,500 hours. There are no cases of discrimination, the airport says in its report.

„The sustainability report paints a full picture of our understanding about the success and transformation of Sofia Airport. From the very beginning we set ourselves the ambitious goal to turn the airport into a five-star regional hub in the next five years. In effect this means an excellent experience for the passenger and includes everything from efficient travel to and from the airport, modem facilities, streamlined operations, courteous staff and many other aspects. The report highlights our commitment to the sustainable development and our ambition for a long-term growth,” said Sofia Airport CEO Jesus Caballero.

The airport will continue to promote the introduction of innovations, digitization of processes and good world practices in aviation to achieve a greener and more sustainable future.
