Patriarch Daniil received German Ambassador to Bulgaria Irene Maria Plank at the Synodal Palace, the Bulgarian Patriarchate announced on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by Secretary General of the Holy Synod Bishop Gerasim of Melnik.

To start the meeting, Plank expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to meet with Daniil and talk about the societal role of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

"The Bulgarian Orthodox Church has always been a pillar of strength for the Bulgarian people, preserving their identity through centuries of hardship. One of the clearest examples of its significance is that our country remains free of interreligious conflicts and hostilities," Daniil said.

The conversation touched on broader societal issues, including the global challenges facing the modern world. The meeting also underscored the strong relationship between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and other traditional religious communities in the country.

Daniil expressed gratitude to Germany for its support of the Bulgarian diaspora.
