Vlaykova Cinema, the oldest operational cinema in Sofia that has preserved its vintage look since its establishment in 1926

On April 6, 1910, the first Bulgarian documentary premiered. The Bulgarian War was screened at the Modern Theatre cinema in downtown Sofia.

Modern Theatre was the first cinema in Bulgaria and the first building constructed for film screenings in the Balkans. It was unveiled by two Hungarians in 1908. This is where in 1915, the first Bulgarian feature film, Bulgaran Is Gallant, had its premiere. Modern Theatre functioned as a cinema until 2013.

By 1912, there were already four big cinemas in the Bulgarian capital and cinemas in other big cities across the country.
