Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova addressed a journalism forum titled "Philology and Journalism: Together for Language" taking place in Sofia University Tuesday. "Words are a weapon that can be used in any situation and can hurt much more than firearms. Words are the most tender means by which we can express the most beautiful of wishes. The words of journalists reach every home, whether through electronic or print media," she said in her remarks.

At the forum, Bulgarian language students and professors from Sofia University are summing up the results from their studies of journalistic language and will honour Bulgarian journalists for taking a stance with regard to the going issues with Bulgarian language use.

The forum has been held for long years and is traditionally organized by students and faculty of the Slav Philology Faculty of Sofia University.

Kiselova said, "More than 20 years ago, the idea of analyzing journalistic and political speech was conceived, and my colleagues from the Faculty of Slav Philology fired me up - not only me, but also others.

Kiselova teaches at the Sofia University Faculty of Law.

She also said that the language of Sofia University should be "the yardstick and 20 years ago we talked about the time to set a standard because it seemed to us that the language was starting to drift in directions we did not like". "But 20 years later we see that this trend has not stopped. But this should not dishearten us and we must continue to fight for the Bulgarian language, to which we are all indebted. We should write and read more," she added.

Among the attendees are BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Sofia University Rector Prof. Georgi Valchev, faculty, students and journalists.
