President Rumen Radev met Tuesday with North Macedonia's VMRO People's Party leader Ljubco Georgievski, former prime minister of the country between 1998 and 2002. The political dialogue between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia should be conducted at all levels and can achieve results when it is built on mutual respect and implementation of the 2022 European consensus, said Radev at the meeting, quoted by the presidential press service.
The meeting was held at the initiative of Ljubco Georgievski.
President Radev expressed hope that the state leadership of the Republic of North Macedonia will proceed as soon as possible to include Bulgarians in its constitution, which would also open the door to negotiations for the country's full membership in the European Union. The head of State also expressed his expectation for the elimination of hate speech towards Bulgaria and Bulgarians in North Macedonia, and for the public media and institutions in the country to lead this process.
Georgievski stressed that he is in favour of a much more active dialogue in bilateral relations, supports the inclusion of Bulgarians in the constitution on North Macedonia and the guarantee of their rights, which will also open the country's European perspective and stimulate bilateral economic and information exchange, tourism and mutual investments in the interest of both countries and the region.
