European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova visited Technical University of Sofia (TU) on Friday, the University reported on its website. The Rector of TU, Prof. Ivan Kralov, briefed Ivanova on the University's achievements and drew attention to the close cooperation that the University has with businesses.

In recent years, new specialties have been developed together with businesses along with the traditional activity on joint research projects with leading international companies.

The work of the newly established centres of excellence and centres of competence was presented. A highlight of the meeting was the model of training in the foreign language faculties of the University, which is unique to Bulgaria. Graduates of these faculties receive double diplomas. Ivanova described this model as the first step towards the creation of a common European diploma.
