Widely acclaimed violinist Vadim Repin is returning to Sofia to offer classical music fans his impressive interpretation of Sergei Prokofiev's outstanding Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor. He will perform at Bulgaria Hall on January 30 together with the Sofia Philharmonic under the baton of Carlo Tenan, the orchestra told BTA.

The show will also feature Festive Overture in A major by Dmitri Shostakovich and Symphony No. 2 in D major by Johannes Brahms.

Born in Siberia in 1971, Vadim Repin is among the most prominent contemporary violin performers. He won all categories of the Wieniawski competition at the age of eleven. His debuts in some of the most famous music venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and theatres in Tokyo, Munich, Berlin and Helsinki, and his collaboration with leading orchestras and conductors created his reputation as an extraordinary talent on the world stage.

Repin is known for his remarkable recordings of works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Brahms and Beethoven, which have earned him high accolades such as the Echo Classic and the BBC Music Award. He holds the French title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres. In April 2014, he became founder and Artistic Director of the annual Transsiberian Arts Festival.

Carlo Tenan was born in Italy in 1969. A distinguished and vibrant conductor, his recognizable interpretations of symphonic music, opera and ballet and his deep understanding of modern music attract ever growing interest. Tenan began his conducting career as assistant to Sir Antonio Pappano and Maestro Lorin Maazel. He has directed some of the most prestigious international orchestras including Rome’s Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Konzerthaus Berlin.

The highlights of Tenan's career include his debut at the Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg, many successful opera performances and his work on an opera project with Ludovico Einaudi. Since 2024, he has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tickets to the Sofia concert are available at the ticket office of Bulgaria Hall and via Eventim.bg.
