Canadian countertenor Nicholas Burns will give a Baroque concert with the Sofia Opera Chamber Orchestra at the chamber music hall of the Sofia Opera and Ballet House (SOBH) on February 6. The programme features arias and instrumental pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Henry Purcell, Alessandro Scarlatti and George Frideric Handel, the SOBH said on Tuesday.

On February 9, Burns will perform in Carmina Burana, a ballet created by Italian choreographer Fredy Franzutti to the music of Carl Orff's cantata, also to be staged at the SOBH.

Nicholas Burns was a winner of the New York Oratorio Society competition at Carnegie Hall in 2023, according to information published on the singer's website. The same year, he received awards from Les Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques, the Vancouver International Music Competition, and Edmonton Opera's Rumbold Vocal Prize. He gave the world premiere of the opera L'Orangeraie by French composer Zad Moultaka in Montreal in 2021.

Aside from singing, Burns is an accomplished bagpiper, having won the World Pipe Band Championships in 2012.
