Artists from India, Bulgaria, Japan and the USA won awards at the 22nd International Biennial of Graphic Art in Varna.

The Varna's Grand Prize went to a wood carving, titled "Maaa", by Jintu Mohan Kalita from India. The special prize of the jury was awarded to the Bulgarian artist Buyan Filchev for his mixed media work, titled "Egg".

Three equal prizes were awarded to Douglas Bosley from the USA and his mezzotint "The Crown", Ohaya Hitoshi from Japan with the work "Sphere of Life: Water" (etching, aquatint) and the Bulgarian Nikol Nesheva for a drypoint piece, titled "Was It You I Was to Keep?'

The awards in this year's edition of the biennial were determined by an international jury, chaired by Prof. Stoimen Stoilov, with members Vlado Goreski and Lili Boshevska from the Republic of North Macedonia, Associate Professor Denitsa Yaneva from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, and the director of the Varna Biennial, Venceslav Antonov.

Works are selected for participation in the exhibition should be executed with classical graphic techniques, without the intervention of modern digital technologies. Over 530 graphics by 324 authors from 53 countries were arranged in the halls of the City Art Gallery in Varna. There was a strong participation of artists from Bulgaria, Mexico, Thailand and Japan, the jury noted.
