Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh awarded the winners of the parallel giant slalom in the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Bansko on Saturday. At a ceremony held on the central square in the mountain resort, Borshosh presented the awards in the men's and women's event, Austria's Andreas Prommegger and Germany's Ramona Theresia Hofmeister, respectively.
The other winners received their awards from Mayor of Bansko Stoycho Banenski and Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Stefka Kostadinova. Banenski awarded Austria's Benjamin Karl and Japan's Tsubaki Miki, while Kostadinova awarded Italy's Gabriel Messner and Poland's Aleksandra Krol-Walas, who achieved victories in the small finals.
After the awards ceremony, the numbers for Sunday's race, which will be in the parallel slalom discipline, were drawn.
Bulgaria's Radoslav Yankov, who finished fifth in the men's event on Saturday, will ski as number one in the qualification on Sunday. Number two went to Prommegger and number three, to Benjamin Karl.
The top 16 men's and women's snowboarders drew their numbers for Sunday's qualifier by choosing one of the kids on stage, who were hiding their race jerseys. The children who took part in the ceremony train skiing and snowboarding in Bansko and, according to the hosts of the show, have the potential to be the successors of Radoslav Yankov and Albert Popov, the Bulgarian star in alpine skiing.
The award ceremony took place in front of nearly 1,000 residents and guests of Bansko.
