Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev has held a phone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, Georgiev’s Ministry said on its website on Tuesday. During the call, it was agreed that Minister Georgiev would visit Egypt soon.

While in Egypt, Georgiev is expected to take part in high-level meetings and brief the Egyptian business community on opportunities to further strengthen bilateral economic and investment ties, which have seen strong progress over the past year.

The sides also discussed the possibility of a new round of political consultations between both countries’ foreign ministries.

Georgiev and Abdelatty addressed the tense situation in the Middle East. The Bulgarian Minister said that this country supports in principle Egypt’s plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Both diplomats agreed that efforts should be focused on achieving a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and moving forward with the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, with the aim of ending the hostilities and securing the release of all hostages.

Minister Abdelatty offered his condolences for the tragic death of a Bulgarian national employed in the United Nations system, who was killed in Gaza on March 19. The sides agreed that both countries are determined to do everything in their power to end the bloodshed and help stabilize Gaza and other parts of the Middle East.

Georgiev last spoke with Abdelatty just over a month ago, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry recalled.
