MPs will begin work on Thursday with the election of a governor of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), according to the adopted programme of the National Assembly for this week.

The second item on the agenda is the election of a judge to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria from the National Assembly's quota. After that, Parliament will continue with the consideration of the second reading of the 2025 State Budget Bill.

The only candidate for NHIF Governor is Petko Stefanovski, nominated by the GERB-UDF parliamentary group. In their motivations, they indicated that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Petko Stefanovski has 25 years of professional experience in the healthcare system. He was Deputy Minister of Health, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the National Health Insurance Fund and Head of the Department of the largest Emergency Department in Northern Bulgaria at the Dr. Georgi Stranski University Hospital

in Pleven. He was heard by the parliamentary Committee on Health on February 27.

There are two candidates for judge in the Constitutional Court from the quota of the National Assembly. Yonko Grozev was nominated by Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria, and Orlin Kolev was nominated by GERB-UDF.

Yonko Grozev is a former judge of the European Court of Human Rights, and Orlin Kolev - a university lecturer in constitutional law with over 18 years of experience and a member of the Commission for Protection from Discrimination.

On Wednesday, MPs began the discussion of the second reading of the 2025 State Budget Bill, and heard a report of the leading parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance. The MPs decided to continue with the debates and voting on the draft budget after considering the fixed items on the agenda for Thursday.
