The Central Election Commission (CEC) has declared Plamen Angelov Petkov, nominated by the Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) party, as a Member of Parliament in the 51st National Assembly. The decision was made during a CEC session on Thursday.
Petkov will replace Samuil Borisov Slavov, whose mandate was terminated by the National Assembly yesterday following his resignation. Slavov was sworn earlier in March after the Constitutional Court ruled the election of 16 MPs unlawful.
Slavov's resignation was approved in Parliament, after Bird.bg revealed that Slavov had been arrested in the US for ATM skimming. According to Bird, initially Slavov denied but then confessed to the arrests. Slavov spent 4 months in prison, as confirmed by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in Florida.
