The population of red deer has been increasing in the areas of Bolyarovo Municipality in Yambol Region, Nikolay Valchev, a hunting specialist at the Strandzha Hunting and Fishing Association, told BTA on Thursday.

Valchev pointed out that local hunting groups are being helped by Border Police officers in their efforts to protect the red deer from poachers. "There are fewer poachers here, thanks to our work, but also to the border guards who are constantly patrolling and it is difficult for anyone to poach in our areas. This makes us very happy, because otherwise we would have to hire a company to guard the hunting grounds," Valchev commented.

According to the spring assessment carried out by the 14 hunting groups in the region, the most common are roe deer, followed by wild boars. The number of red deer has increased significantly since 2022, as they have entered the hunting grounds and created offspring, Valchev noted.

The Strandzha Hunting and Fishing Association unites 480 hunters in 14 groups from settlements on the territory of the Bolyarovo Municipality. About 10% of the association's members are women, Valchev added.
