An investigation has been launched into the incident at Karnobat railway station, Deputy Chair of the National Board for Aircraft, Maritime and Railway Accident Investigation (NBAMRAI) Boycho Skrobanski told BTA’s Stanimir Dimitrov on Thursday.
At this stage, the exact cause of the incident cannot be confirmed, Skrobanski said.
Earlier in the day, a locomotive collided with a passenger railcar while performing a shunting manoeuvre at Karnobat station (Southeastern Bulgaria). Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) reported that six people inside the railcar sustained minor injuries.
As part of the investigation, the braking system of the locomotive will be examined, Skrobanski said. NBAMRAI reported a total of 11 people were injured, including three employees of the National Railway Infrastructure Company. The machinist was promptly tested for alcohol and drugs after the incident.
The Labour Inspectorate has also launched a separate investigation into the case.
