site.btaBulgaria Neither Asked Nor Plans to Share in Peacekeeping Operation in Ukraine
Bulgaria has not been asked to participate in a future peacekeeping operation in Ukraine and no plans are made to this end, Bulgarian Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov said in Parliament on Thursday. He and Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev were given a hearing by MPs about questions addressed by the US on Bulgaria's readiness to participate in a special military operation in the territory of Ukraine.
"In no way has anyone asked us to participate in the current war of Russia against Ukraine," Zapryanov further said. The Minister explained that the questions were sent to the NATO allies and not to Bulgaria in particular.
On February 16, Reuters reported that the US has sent European governments a set of questions about what they would need from the US in order to provide Ukraine with security guarantees. One of the questions in a document seen by Reuters reads: "Would your country be willing to deploy its troops to Ukraine as part of a peace settlement?"
