First Sod Turned for New School Building in Sofia

A sod-turning ceremony was held here on Tuesday for a new school building of the First Private High School of Mathematics and the Archimedes Private Primary School. The building will be constructed within the territory of Sofia Tech Park and is expected to be unveiled for the 2026/2027 school year.

Nearly 1,000 children will study in the new building, which will be constructed with close to EUR 25 million. The science and education complex project provides for the construction of over 16,000 square metres of underground and above-ground floor area, which will house spacious classrooms for students from the preparatory to the secondary stage of education, including specialized STEM classrooms for education focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics to state-of-the-art standards, as well as modern indoor and outdoor sports areas covering an area of over 2,400 sq m. The project integrates green captive power generation and waste heat recovery.

Patriarch Daniil blessed the construction site. "Education and love for science is a traditional virtue for us Bulgarians, which has been instilled and nurtured in our ancestors since the founders of our education and culture, the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius," the Patriarch said at the ceremony.

The owner of the two private schools, Antoniya Vlachkova, thanked all those who have contributed and will contribute to the construction of this modern, modern, spacious teaching and learning facility. 

Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev noted that over the years, Bulgarian private education has established itself and has become a model for development and innovation. "We can be happy that there is private investment in education. Congratulations to all those who are doing it," he said.

The ceremony was also attended by Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev and Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth Krasimir Yakimov.
