The regular dialogue between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassadors or EU Member States in Bulgaria is of key importance, because these countries share a common vision for the future and face common challenges, Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said at a meeting with the EU Ambassadors here on Tuesday. Georgiev focused on unity within the EU which, he said, is more important than ever in the context of the changing geopolitical environment and external threats, the Foreign Ministry reported.

The meeting was organised by the Embassy of Poland as the country holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Foreign Minister discussed with the Ambassadors the topics on the EU agenda and Bulgaria's foreign policy priorities. In Georgiev's words, joining the euro area remains one of them, and the Bulgarian institutions are working intensively and making good progress in all work areas to achieve this goal. The Minister underscored the country's progress in the process of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. "Our wish is to complete the technical phase of the process by the end of 2025 or early 2026," Georgiev added.

Minister Georgiev and the Member States' Ambassadors exchanged positions on the current developments in the Middle East, the policy towards Ukraine in response to the Russian aggression, and other issues on the international agenda. Georgiev pointed out that Bulgaria is working closely with the new US administration to tackle pressing global challenges together. Among the issues discussed was EU enlargement, based on respect for the principle of own merits in fulfilling conditions and commitments.
