GERB-UDF is introducing a bill to amend the Family Code, related to the regulation of the status of shared parenthood in the event of separation. Details of the bill were shared with the press by GERB-UDF co-floor leader Denitsa Sacheva in Parliament on Friday.

It is proposed that the parents themselves decide by prior agreement the regime of their family relations with the children, before this is decided by a court. In case they cannot reach an agreement, only then the court should rule on the relevant decisions related to the regime of visitation, travel abroad and the time that parents should spend during the holidays with the children, Sacheva explained.

In her words, this is an extremely sensitive topic. In 2023 alone, there are over 21,000 marriages and over 9,000 divorces. Usually children become victims of bitter parental wars.

Sacheva noted that it is proposed that the agreement between the parents should regulate the issues of travel abroad and the issuance of identity documents so that the children do not suffer because the parents have made one decision or another.
