site.btaSnowboarder Dies in Avalanche

A snowboarder has died after falling into an avalanche field, the Bulgarian Red Cross Mountain Rescue Service told BTA on Friday. The accident happened shortly before 3 pm between the ski area of Bansko and the Vihren hut.

Two snowboarders were caught in an avalanche field and a third person remained outside. He managed to quickly locate them, as all three were wearing individual avalanche gear, and extricated them, but one of the snowboarders died.

The rescue team reacted quickly and provided pre-medical assistance and transportation for the injured.
