Addressing the opening event of the annual meeting of local authorities, organized by the National Association of the Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) on Sunday, President Rumen Radev said that the local authorities have become an embodiment of Bulgarian statehood in these years of crises and political instability. Radev stressed that NAMRB establishes itself as the most representative voice of municipalities in Bulgaria and is an indispensable factor in the interaction between local people and the central authority.

Radev expressed deep appreciation to the mayors and municipal councils, stressing that their role and power is growing, but their responsibility is also increasing, which unfortunately is not yet linked to the relevant normative documents, so that they have the powers and tools to meet the high expectations of them. The President underscored that the National Assembly's priorities differ from those of the local authorities and noted that in order to achieve prosperity and sustainability, policies need to be pursued together and on an equal footing, rather than local authorities being mere executors of the decisions of the central authority.
