The Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition came up with a proposal for the National Assembly to oblige the transport minister to take the necessary measures to develop and implement an automated information system for managing the truck traffic at land border crossings. The draft decision was tabled at the National Assembly on August 15, the institution’s website says.

The draft decision envisages to oblige the transport minister, together with the interior minister, the regional development minister and the director of the National Customs Agency to propose to the National Assembly a plan for the development and implementation of a such automated information system within 60 days of the decision. According to it, the system for management of freight traffic near the land border checkpoints must include a mobile application, geographic information system, queue management system, and a notification system. It must also be integrated with the information systems of other public authorities.

CC-DB identify the truck traffic situation at the border crossings at Kapitan Andreevo, Vidin, Ruse, Kulata, Kardam and Durankulak as particularly worrying.

Earlier on Thursday, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev convened an urgent meeting at the Council of Ministers in connection with the problem with parking lots at Bulgaria's border crossings.

A meeting was held between different ministers at the Interior Ministry on Wednesday, during which it was decided that the head of the Customs Agency will draft a traffic management strategy across all border crossings.  It was reported that traditionally around 1 September there is a huge accumulation of heavy trucks and car traffic.
