World Meteorological Organization (WMO) President Abdulla Al Mandous visited the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) on Monday, the Environment and Water Ministry said. During the visit, Al Mandous met with Deputy Environment and Water Minister Reneta Koleva, NIMH Director General Tanya Marinova, and scientists from the institute.

Al Mandous thanked Bulgaria for hosting the 61st session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Deputy Minister Koleva said: "More than 20 Bulgarian scientists have agreed to attend the Scoping Meeting for the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) in Malaysia this year, a testament to their dedication and expertise. Their participation not only highlights their individual experiences but is also a collective proof of Bulgaria's commitment to addressing the impacts of climate change."

Al Mandous engaged in professional discussions with meteorologists and hydrologists at the institute, focusing on the development of short- and long-term forecasts. At the conclusion of the meeting, he expressed readiness to provide support to NIMH as required.

Al Mandous was elected President of WMO in 2023. He is currently in Bulgaria for the 61st session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, running from July 27 to August 2.
