"We all expect the political forces to reach a consensus, to form a majority and a regular government, and to start dealing with the problems facing the Bulgarian citizens," caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said on Wednesday at the beginning of Wednesday's Government meeting.
"Today [Wednesday] is November 27, exactly one month since the last early parliamentary elections were held, and we are still in the first session of the National Assembly," Glavchev noted.
He urged MPs to stop trying to transfer responsibility and to leave the caretaker Cabinet alone. "They should stop with the speculations. If they get down to solving people's problems, they will have no time left for speculations about the government," the caretaker prime minister added.
The benefits that Bulgaria's accession to Schengen will bring are multilayered, he said, adding that he believes things are moving in the right direction.
"Last Friday we received a positive sign from Budapest, which we would not have received if they did not trust the caretaker Government," Glavchev said.
"The results that have been achieved since December 2023 were reported. In this period, the caretaker Government had been in power for two thirds of the time. So if someone in Europe had lacked trust and they thought that this Government was weak, rest assured that no such sign would have come. This is an assessment of what has been achieved so far," the caretaker Prime Minister said.
"The results of the much-criticised Interior Ministry were reported, during this period the ministers were Minister [Kalin] Stoyanov and Minister [Atanas] Ilkov. It is strange why they are the most criticised ministers in some respects. We cannot overlook the contribution of the Ministry of Defence, which helps with everything that is needed to guard the external border of the European Union," Glavchev added.
