It is not a cliché to say that the war fought in Ukraine is a war for the future of Europe, said National Assembly Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov here on Saturday. He added that this is the reason the common European policy and the security policy of Europe are undergoing changes to adapt to the circumstances, to the needs and expectations of the day.

Zhelyazkov's comments were made on the occasion of the two-year anniversary of the start of the military conflict. He said that Bulgaria and Ukraine share common historical and moral values. He praised Ukraine's efforts, as they prevent the war from spilling to the west and southwest.

The Parliamentary Chair said that this has been the biggest and bloodiest war in Europe since the Second World War.

He shared: "When we visited Kyiv, we saw a determination during our conversations with ordinary people, those who are currently in Ukraine and defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, to defend it to the end. There is war fatigue, and it is evident in the daily lives of ordinary Ukrainians. In Kyiv, the people live in peace, but this peace is rather the stoicism of showing that our lives cannot be changed by the circumstances that impose this change on us. It is lived with a weary pride. This weariness comes from the almost nightly attacks of Russian missiles [...]. This is the great terror, which is unthinkable to us, because for several generations Europe has been enjoying peace."
