Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel and her Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry Monday discussed cooperation in innovation, renewable energy, hydrogen, food security, transport, and tourism. During their meeting in the margins of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, the ministers also discussed the preparation of the first session of the Joint Cooperation Commission, Gabriel said on Facebook.

"I thanked the Egyptian side for its support in the evacuation of our compatriots from Gaza. Egypt is the first Arab country with which Bulgaria established diplomatic relations and the largest economic and trade partner of our country in the Middle East and Africa region. In 2026, we will mark an important anniversary: 100 years since the establishment of our diplomatic relations," she wrote. "I thank the Minister for the constructive discussion and look forward to our next meeting during my working visit to Egypt in early February. The visit is an opportunity to deepen our economic relations while political dialogue remains at a high level," Gabriel added.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister is currently in Brussels to attend the Foreign Affairs Council. The Council’s topics include the EU mission in the Red Sea and the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.
