Caretaker Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov Tuesday held a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria, Hisashi Michigami, the press centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
In the context of the triple anniversary of Bulgarian-Japanese relations in 2024, marking 115 years since the first official contacts, 85 years since the establishment, and 65 years since the restoration of diplomatic relations, the two sides discussed the state of bilateral relations. They focused on traditional areas such as political dialogue, trade and investment cooperation, energy, and culture, as well as opportunities for further development and enhancement in light of modern realities.
Minister Kondov praised the strengthening of economic cooperation and the visits of several Japanese business delegations to Bulgaria in 2024, including those from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). He expressed hope that JETRO would restore its presence in Bulgaria.
Both sides confirmed their desire to continue their positive interaction on current international issues, including the war in Ukraine, highlighting the shared values and traditional friendship between Bulgaria and Japan.
