Bulgaria will host the first ever International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, the Education and Science Ministry reported here on Tuesday. The event will take place in Burgas (on the Black Sea) in the summer of 2024. Several weeks after it was announced, teams from 15 countries and representatives of leading universities have already applied for the Olympiad, Education and Science Minister Galin Tzokov said during an award ceremony for the Bulgarian cybersecurity team.
On the team are 14- to 25-year-olds. This year, they debuted at the EU Cybersecurity Challenge and ranked 19th.
Tzokov recalled that in the past, Bulgaria founded many international olympiads and competitions, such as the first olympiad in information technology held in Pravets (Western Bulgaria) in 1989. Bulgaria has also initiated a European olympiad in civil education. "We can jointly work on initiating an international cybersecurity competition," the Minister said.
