Borislav Muerov will be relieved from his responsibilities as Executive Director of the Road Transport Administration Executive Agency on August 5, the Bulgarian Transport and Communications Ministry told BTA on Friday.

The Ministry did not specify the reason for the dismissal. Commenting on the issue during Question Time in Parliament on Friday, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said that on Wednesday he signed a proposal by caretaker Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeykov for Muerov's dismissal.

In his reply to an MP's question, Glavchev made it clear that the decision was prompted by problems with a new system of annual motor vehicle inspections, as a number of roadworthy petrol-powered cars fail the mandatory exhaust fumes tests and their operation is suspended.

The caretaker Prime Minister said that an interdepartmental commission will be set up to look into the issue.
