site.btaJune 9 Elections Abroad for EP, National Parliament Cost BGN 6,096,849, Preliminary Data Show

The total reported funds for the preparation and holding of the elections for MPs and MEPs abroad on June 9 2024 amounted to BGN 6,096, 849, said Prime Minister Glavchev in Parliament on Friday during Question Time. 

"The reported funds for the secondment of employees for members of election commissions amounted to BGN 1, 960, 767," Glavchev said. 

Based on the above data, the share in the total expenditure on secondment of officials is 32.16%. The data presented are as of June 30 2024 and are not final," the Prime Minister added. He stressed that the final data is expected by September 15.

Glavchev answered a question of independent MP Juliana Mateeva. This report could be a reason for a legislative initiative aimed at reducing this cost. 

"I don't like the numbers either, but the best would be to form a regular government and avoid elections," Prime Minister Glavchev said.
