Japanese art teachers participated in a creative workshop in the city of Katano, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, where they learned about Bulgarian cultural heritage and had the opportunity to participate in a martenitsa making workshop, said Boryana Fakumoto, who was in charge of the art event.

Fakumoto said that the reason for organizing such a creative meeting was the fact that the Bulgarian martenitsa is [special red-and-white charms exchanged on Mrch 1 to symbolize the beginning of spring] included in the Japanese art textbooks for the 8th and 9th grades.

During the first part of the seminar, Boryana Fakumoto presented Bulgaria, Bulgarian culture, traditions and folklore to the teachers.

After studying the relations between Bulgaria and Japan, the teachers had the opportunity to learn more about various Bulgarian holidays, customs, cuisine, natural and historical sights, as well as about the Bulgarian education system, in which they showed "great interest".

In the second part of the workshop, Boryana Fakumoto introduced the Japanese teachers to the technique of making a martenitsa.
