Alcoholic Beer Production Down by 5% in EU, Up by Nearly 3% in Bulgaria Last Year

In 2023, EU member countries produced a total of 34.3 billion litres of beer, of which 32.5 billion litres of alcoholic beer and 1.8 billion litres of beer with less than 0.5% alcohol or no alcohol at all, according to Eurostat figures released on Friday on the occasion of International Beer Day, which is celebrated every first Friday of August.

Compared with 2022, alcoholic beer production in the EU has decreased by 5% while in Bulgaria it grew by nearly 3% more than 2022. As for non-alcoholic beer, there has been an increase of 13.5% in the EU; there is no data on non-alcoholic beer for Bulgaria. Thus, total production in the EU last year is down by 1.5 billion litres compared with 2022.

In 2023, according to Eurostat, Bulgaria produced 458 million litres of beer. Bulgaria accounts for about 1.4% of European production.
