The investigation was undertaken on the orders of the Prosecutor General's Office in the city of Izmir, western Turkiye. The operation was carried out by gendarmerie counter-terrorism teams under the coordination of Turkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT). The operation was carried out in order to prevent the possibility of new members joining the DHKP-C, as well as the group's activities, including its financing.
Arrest warrants have been issued for a total of 35 suspects. Efforts to arrest the remaining five are continuing.
The Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front is listed as a terrorist group by the European Union, Turkiye and the United States. The group preaches Marxist ideology and is behind a number of attacks on government facilities.
