There are currently no reports of Bulgarian nationals being injured in the fire that broke out at a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Northwestern Turkiye on Tuesday, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry told BTA. The Bulgarian Embassy in Ankara is in contact with local authorities and closely monitoring the situation, the Ministry added.

Turkish media quoted Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya as saying that a total of 66 people have died and 51 were injured in the fire, which started around 3:30 a.m. local time (2:30 a.m. EET) in the restaurant area of the 12-storey wood-clad hotel in Kartalkaya. Due to the hotel’s wooden structure, the flames quickly engulfed the building.
